Bull Caribou with Velvet Antlers | Wildlife Photo Postcard

A bull caribou looking straight into the camera

A beautiful, awesome, photograph of a bull caribou, with magnificent velvet antlers, looking straight at the camera. Velvet is the name given to the hairy skin that covers the antlers as they grow. Most bull caribou shed their velvet in early September, indicating the arrival of the breeding season, or "Rut".
A wonderful National Geographic photo taken by Michael S. Quinton, at Denali National Park, Alaska.
Featured here on a custom photo postcard.
Makes a great mail to kids and grandkids. Raises kids' awareness of our planet's wildlife, their enthusiasm for it, and their knowledge of earth's animal species.

Caribou at the start of a Snowy Winter | Wildlife Photo Postcard

Caribou looking straight into the camera

A caribou with magnificent antlers, out on a wintry, snowy day, looking straight into the camera.
Caribou, also called reindeer, by you and me :-) is a species of deer native to Arctic and Subarctic regions.

Caribous or reindeers, and the 1,600 miles hike

Every year as summer approaches, caribou herds head north to the tundra. And when the first snows fall, the caribou head back south, completing a migration that sees them travel as many as 1,600 miles (2,574 kilometers) each year.
This beautiful National Geographic photo, featured here on a photo postcard, was taken at the start of one such migration to the south, as the weather became cooler. Photographed by Paul Nicklen.
